A message from Ken Moore
For almost a decade, Land & Water Australia has been an innovative leader in social and institutional research and development.

Current challenges for Social and Institutional Research Program (SIRP) include issues of climate change, globalisation, world-wide communication technology, increasing food demand, constraints on land and water resources for food production and community demands for environmental conservation. Addressing these issues is requiring transformational change in Natural Resource Management (NRM) and agriculture.

Governments, industries, regions, policy makers, natural resource managers and farmers accept that without improved understanding of the human element, achieving adoption of research and improved NRM practices is severely constrained.

The Australian community is demanding evidence-based policies and practices from legislators, policy makers, users and managers of our natural resources.

This presents SIRP with opportunities to generate and integrate economic, social, cultural, scientific and technological knowledge focussed on the big challenges that Australia now faces in natural resource management and agriculture.
